Acne is a skin condition that often begins at puberty and continues through the teen years, but normally levels off in the early twenties. In some adults, there can be flare ups of acne throughout life. Severe acne may cause scaring of the face and other affected areas. There are many treatments for acne, but one of the newest is the use of the acne light.
Acne lights do not involve the use of messy creams or ointments. They can be used while students do homework or watch television.
The light produced by an acne light is at specific wavelengths in the spectrum of light that were chose to kill the bacteria that causes acne and speed healing of scar tissue. Specifically, the blue light helps to kill bacteria while the red is helpful in healing.
The red and blue light should be applied daily for fifteen minutes to half an hour. Light in the wavelengths used in the acne light should not cause skin damage or sunburn; however, some people have skin that is sensitive to all light.
Results from use of the acne light are not immediate. However, after eight weeks or so, you should notice that your skin is becoming clearer and healthier.
To prevent having to use the light for extended periods of time, choose larger lights if you have problems with more than one area of acne.
Acne is a condition that may affect a student’s self-esteem. If left untreated, it can cause excessive scaring, and may affect the persons feelings of self for many years. The price paid for an acne light and the time invested in its use are a small price to pay for the self confidence it can bring.
